My privacy policy

Who I am

My name is Damon Fairclough. You probably know that, since my name is also the URL of this website. I, however, don’t know your name. And unless you get in touch with me via a method of your choosing, it’s going to stay that way.

I am a freelance copywriter, content writer and journalist. In order to do my job, I need to keep hold of my clients’ business details, including things like email addresses, postal addresses and other information related to the work we do together. Rest assured, I take the protection of this information seriously.

As a sole trader with just a laptop, a collection of typing fingers and (so people tell me) a bit of a way with words, I like to keep things pretty simple. I don’t buy or sell people’s personal details, I don’t use cookies on my website, I don’t even have anything you could call a mailing list. What I do have, however, is a privacy policy. And this is it.

Types of data I collect

Personal details

The only personal information I hold is related to the work I do. This includes email and postal addresses of clients and colleagues, phone numbers and email conversations. I also hold records of work in progress and work completed, which may occasionally contain personal information, and details of financial transactions with clients and colleagues including my invoices, receipts and statements. None of this information is shared with anyone else except in the circumstances mentioned in the Third parties section of this policy.

Internet analytics

Perhaps foolishly, I don’t use Google Analytics on my website (damonfairclough.com). I probably should, but I don’t. I do use a less sophisticated tool called AWStats, which collects standard internet log information including numbers of page visits, the time people spend on each page, some of the search terms that bring visitors to my site, and the URLs of websites that link to my pages.

Similar information is also available to me via the webmaster tools at search engines including Google and Bing.

None of these tools identify individual visitors, and I don’t make any attempt to find out who they are. In any case, even if I wanted to do that, I wouldn’t have the first idea where to start.

Third parties

Although the world of freelance copywriting can be lonesome, I do sometimes work alongside other people such as graphic designers, web developers, illustrators, animators, and other copywriters. In order that we can all do our jobs properly, I may share a client’s details with one or more of these contractors (and vice versa).

I only ever share this information in connection with the project in hand, only relevant details are shared, and it only happens with permission from the people concerned.

Access to your personal information

You are entitled to view, amend or delete any personal information I hold. Simply get in touch with my data protection officer (handily, that’s me) using the contact form on this website or by phone on 07941 561 998.

Changes to this privacy notice

This privacy policy is reviewed each year on or around 25 May.
